Old Testament

Genesis

Genesis is the book of beginnings. It tells us who God is, why mankind exists, why the world is broken, and why we need a Redeemer.

How Living Word Lessons approaches Genesis

We approach Genesis as the inspired Word of God and as real history. That does not mean we ignore hard questions. It means we do not start by putting Scripture on trial. We start by listening to the text, comparing Scripture with Scripture, and then using history, archaeology, and language as tools that help us understand what God has said.

This first section covers Genesis 1–5. These chapters introduce creation, mankind made in God's image, marriage, sin, death, sacrifice, worship, judgment, mercy, and the promise that one day the seed of the woman would crush the serpent.

In plain English: If you miss Genesis, you will struggle to understand the rest of the Bible.
